Now with unlimited storage, that can be a loads of photos, and thumbnails of all the images can be viewed, and can be sorted out by date, sender, folder and size. 
(Credit: Yahoo) “Yahoo Mail has extremely simplifies to find and share those treasures with our new Photos app,” the company writes. “The Photos app aggregates all of the photos in your inbox that you have ever sent or received during the entire period of your email account. You can see thumbnails of all the photos and filter by date, sender, folder, and size.”
“With Yahoo! Mail receiving and sending on average up to 500 million photos a day, this new tool makes it effortless to manage photos coming to (and from) your inbox,” a Yahoo representative reportedly said to WebProNews.
Moving forward, Yahoo asserts that the latest photo app would empower users to easily view and search for any photo and they can also access the app from either their desktop or mobile device. In addition, the photos app (Photos), which can be located under the Application section on the left tab need not be downloaded. Once inside the app, users can choose to view all their photos, irrespective of the number in a slideshow format. The app displays the most recent photos first by default, but if you are looking for some older photos, then you can do so by selecting “Sort by: Oldest.”
Dave McDowell, senior director of product management at Yahoo, said Yahoo Mail users exchange close to 500 million photos a day.
Speaking to CNET, McDowell said, “The reason people distribute photos through email is there is more privacy and control of who sees the photo and (the app) is an extension of that.”
In fact, Yahoo Mail boasts more than 300 million users worldwide, so the company clearly has a reason to continue innovating and creating new solutions for its mail product as it kills other services. The new photos app nestles alongside the Flickr folder and your other folders tied to your Inbox on the left-hand side of your e-mail box.
Interestingly, the app also allows users to share the photos with friends and family, either via e-mail or by uploading them to Flickr with a few clicks — Yahoo’s image and video hosting website. Additionally, any photo you upload from a mobile device from Flickr will automatically show up in your Yahoo Mail.
Explaining further, McDowell mentioned that this is different from the current, more-limited Flickr app, which displays your photostream and allows you to share the uploaded photos via e-mail. That app will be phased out eventually.
Elaborating a little more on the Photos app on Yahoo! Mail, in an official post it has been stated, “Check it out and you will quickly see how easy and fun it is to use! Take a walk down memory lane–relive that family reunion from 2010, the trip to Mexico or your nephew’s graduation from just last week!”
Amid recent a management shake-up and layoffs, this sheeny new app sounds like another attempt at revamping Yahoo’s lethargic mail service. As a matter of this actually looks like a smart addition to the service and one that has not been seen with “e-mail cool kid” Gmail.
McDowell mentioned the company is just identifying ways to improve user experience.
“We are looking at our users and how Yahoo Mail users are using Yahoo Mail, and we know how important photos and photo sharing are to them, and how many photos are shared via email — as opposed to a competitive move against Gmail or Hotmail,” he said.
