GOOGLE MAP UPDATE FOR ANDROID OS

August 3, 2011 0

Google has come up with an update for those mobile devices and smartphones which are enabled with camera and are running on Android OS. The search engine giant has updated Google Maps for Android. Now an Android user can make an addition to a map of a place they visit, which might be in the form of photos or any other significant data. This can be done even when one is on the go. This update wad added last week which basically relates to the photo uploading feature, but there is more to the update. “Latitude” and “Places” have even been improved.

Benjamin Grol, product manager at Google blogged that an Android user can now attach their photos to “Places” and additionally their attached photos can even be used as their profile pictures for that specific page. There is even an option to manage the photos uploaded to “Places” wherein one can not only view their uploads but even can delete them as per their wish. To use this option, one will have to go to their Picasa account and click on “Photos for Google Maps.”

Grol added in the post saying that this new feature would be helpful for people and would help them decide as to which places they would like to visit. This is because one may have decided to go to a specific place, but it is always preferred to know how does the place actually look like. Of course there are many reviews and ratings available all over the net but the uploads of a traveler can help others to actually see those places and get some extra knowledge as to how that place actually looks like. He even stated that for descriptive terms, the new features of Google Maps have been ported on Android OS.

One can look into “Places” and they would see ‘descriptive terms’ appearing in search results. Looking at these terms, one can be well-informed about their services and products which enriches a business’ identity.

Grol said that they have renamed their service ‘Pre-cache map area’ which was earlier named as ‘Download map area.’ Yet another addition was of ‘Bigger text’. ‘Bigger text’ has been added and now is a part of the company’s experimental Labs features.

The access even to “My Places for mobile” is quick and one can not only star their preferences, but even can re-visit the Place pages which have been looked into recently. To access “My Places” one can just press the menu button on the phone when they are in Google Maps. If one wants to add a Place when they check-in, then one can use another feature available on Google Maps which allows a user to make an addition of a new Place ‘on-the-go’ which is a preferable option for additions when checking in.

This update can be brought into use by a traveler wherever Google Maps is available currently. This update is however has a basic restriction that the Android OS user should be using a device which is of a version 2.1+.
