GALAXY S TO GET VALUE PACK, NOT ICS!

December 29, 2011 0

Galaxy S gets an update! But wait. There is no ICS still on the Galaxy S, so for those who were waiting for the ICS update on their Galaxy S, will still have to wait. Samsung has announced that the Galaxy S devices would receive an update, which would be a Value Pack upgrade, helping the user experience on the said device to some extent only!

Samsung, has earlier claimed that the Ice Cream Sandwich update will not be coming to the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab 7”. the reasons noted for the same was due to hardware limitations in the form of an insufficient RAM and ROM, making it inadequate to run Android 4.0 along with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.

However, many users of the devices and experts were still of the view that Samsung would push in a way for the Galaxy S users to get the ICS upgrade in some way or the other. That hasn’t happened, but it seems Samsung is ready to compensate for the same with this Value Pack upgrade.

What is the Value Pack upgrade all about?

Samsung has tried to manage a number of features, or rather push in a number of features in this Value Pack, which can be helpful to its users to some extent. Although this upgrade will be no good as compared to the ICS upgrade, one can still enjoy the pushed in features with ease.

The reports suggest that with this Value Pack update, the Galaxy S will receive implementations, such as improved web browsing, multi-tasking, new widgets, etc. in order to bring the user experience as close as possible to Ice Cream Sandwich. But it still misses out on the most important point. The handset will still run on Android 2.3 and not Android 4.0.

The question still prevails, as to why can one not get the ICS upgrade on the Galaxy S as the Nexus S has similar hardware specifications as this handset and is receiving the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. It appears that Samsung are slashing the capabilities of the Galaxy S, because of its TouchWiz UI.

Till the Value Pack upgrade actually comes in use, and experts and users get their hands on it, one will still have to assume that things wont really change with this upgrade.

One may never know, Samsung might just plan the best new year gift for the Galaxy S users by providing them with an Ice Cream Sandwich update, instead of the Value Pack update. But being hopeful of this, can be shattered, so the best would be to wait and watch.
