New York — Popular Google-owned video-sharing outfit over the weekend announced an amazing statistic: claiming that the website reached another video upload milestone — 72 hours of video are uploaded to the site every minute, a significant year-on-year increase, which coincides with the site’s seven-year anniversary.
Well, if you believe that is huge, then read this, the amount of video being watched in that minute is 1,000 times greater.
“We are so honored that you have used YouTube to share how-to tips, political moments, home videos, comedy, music, and so much more,” the YouTube team wrote in a Sunday blog post.
In fact, barely few weeks back the news that YouTube was performing 60 hours per minute created a big sensation on the Internet, and this rapid escalation indicates how fast the site continues to grow.
Apparently, we got a little more detail on these numbers from comScore statistics: This time last year, the Google-owned video hub said that its upload rate had reached 48 hours of content per minute. The new milestone coincides with research firm comScore’s latest US numbers, which ranked Google Sites, driven primarily by YouTube, as the top online video property in April with 158 million unique viewers.
And the video-sharing outfit is not flubbing the numbers, either. That 72 hour figure does not include the various versions that YouTube encodes–high definition, 3-D, etc. People are simply uploading three times as much video as they were two years ago.
Besides, since the past seven years, the site has grown leaps and bounds. Case in point–It is honored with the following: “That is 61 Royal Wedding Ceremonies, 841 Bad Romances, and 1,194 Nyan Cats” every single minute, the YouTube team pointed out.
Well, the company asserts that we have got more video pouring in from more people in more places, as well as bringing in thousands of full-length films and original programming to YouTube. As examples, mobile now contributes to three hours of our total upload time, and we have signed MGM, Paramount, Walt Disney Studios and other studios to bring thousands of movies to YouTube.
Moreover, during the past year, YouTube has redesigned the site, and worked to expand its original programming, launching dozens of new content channels through tie-ups with major publishers, movie stars, comedians, sports associations, and more. YouTube also added the option to convert all short-form videos uploaded in 1080p to 3D.
“And all 800 million of you around the globe have shown us we are on the right track by increasing subscriptions 50 percent and watching over 3 billion hours a month,” the YouTube team wrote.
