Yahoo yet again updated its search results page, which seems to be a quick follow-in after the recent update from last month‘s update whcih had an addition of a dedicated Facebook tab. Surprisingly, Yahoo has opted to get the new update linked to Facebook once again. The previous update Yahoo came up with had Image Search update, which can be said that it has been further enhanced.
Yahoo stated that they have always worked on making Yahoo! Search experience further streamlined and organized which serves as an important element to pass on the most relevant content. It even noted that their efforts have been on unifying the search experiences across web, multimedia, and vertical search results pages with a design that is intuitive as well as clean.
Talking about the new additions, the latest designs make a query search livelier as the following changes would be effective for the Web, Images, Video, News, Blogs, Finance and Sports search results pages. These changes are:
- Clean and Simple – A cleaner and simplistic look and feel that helps you find what is most important to you and to enable you to take action faster.
- Automatic Tabs – Easily accessible tabs will automatically appear right below the Search box to give you the specialized content you may be looking for on our other vertical search results pages. The tabs that may appear, based on the search results content, are Web, Images, Video, News, Blogs, Finance and Sports.
- Left Filters – Filters on the left side of the results will appear, for sorting results by time and related searches.
Image search update which was out last month has yet another improvement as there is an addition of a larger pool of Facebook images to also include public profiles and fan pages and a richer “Latest” pictures experience from across even more Yahoo! Content, along with a few recommendations at the end of galleries which look much better than before.
The screenshot posted shows an example of the Image search results page, which is for “President Obama” query. One might notice that the latest is brought in the search results with the most relevant images at the top. It even indicates how long ago each of these images were published. However, for the same query, (as seen in the screenshot below) one even has an option to click on “Facebook” which can be seen on the left rail. This option would display the most popular public Facebook albums on President Obama.
The News search results page, which is now improved will have an inclusion of filters and news video. The former has been placed on the left of the news sources, while the latter finds a place to the right of the search results. For the Video search results page, the addition counts for videos from across various Yahoo! Properties, which add in to the collection of the top web videos.
Facebook would definitely boost Yahoo’s main product, but would it be right on Yahoo’s part to turn in for a high level of dependency on Facebook. However, what holds in for Yahoo in the future is still debatable, but the present has a number of improvements Yahoo could come up with the help of its integration with Facebook.
