YAHOO REVAMPS YAHOO! IMAGE SEARCH

Yahoo, the former Internet giant, has not been at its best for quite some time now, but this is not stopping their team from coming up with unique features for its products. The recently announced features are on Yahoo Image Search, named as social sharing and continuous scrolling.

With social sharing, a user can now use the facility enabled by Yahoo Images, which would allow them to share the images they find on Yahoo Image Search with your friends on Facebook or Twitter. It seems that Yahoo is trying to strengthen its rivalry with Google as it has excluded Google + from the sharable list.

However, the feature is what one can only praise. When a user clicks on an image result, they are taken to the larger image, and at the same time, there are two small links provided for sharing on the notified networks. The shared link would help a user’s friend to be guided to the Yahoo Image Search page, where they can preview the image. Interestingly, the friends are not directed to the owner (host page) of the image.

The other feature is Continuous Image Scrolling. Using this feature, a user can now continuously scroll through the images in the Yahoo Image Search results. The company stated, “users can scroll down the Yahoo! Image search results to see more and more photos! Type a query for a current event and users will see photos pertaining to breaking news, along with the ability to continuously scroll through the results – all unique to Yahoo! Image Search.”

Reading the said statement above, one might be under the impression that this feature is a blunt reworked one, which is inspired from the continuous scrolling feature offered by Bing and Google’s image search page. It might be true, but Yahoo stressfully said that it is “all unique”.

 

Photo sharing on the Internet is a craze nowadays and this would only help the maniac event further. It definitely helps others visualize the facts in a much better way, but the count is only jumping steps on a minute to minute basis. In 100 days, Google+ had recorded 3.4 billion photo uploads and Facebook records uploads of more than 6 billion every month.

Girish Ananthakrishnan, image and video search product team spokesperson, said that with these changes, they intend to enable users with the ability to share their Facebook and Twitter photos. He asserted, “By clicking on the image from the search results page, users can browse effortlessly through full-size images via the desktop browser and share their preferred network of family and friends.”
