For Android, the app count might be way much lower than one could see in the Apple App Store, but it does not drops in the demand of the apps in the Android market. A recent survey detailed the top 20 app used by men, women and on the overall prospective. Nielsen, market analyst came up with a recent statistics which showed the countdown for the app usage.
Android Market as expected topped the list in every category, but the second position was one to dispute for. In the female Android user list, Facebook grabbed the second position, while for men, it was Google Maps hunting closest to the top slot. For the third spot, Gmail once again was there on each and every list. Interestingly, Google search could not make into the top three of any list. This shows that the top list has these three ruling the smartphones of Android users who are above the age of 18.
Talking about Facebook’s overall active reach over the last month, women had a higher percentage of addiction as compared to the men as the former accounted for 81.0 %, while the latter accounted for 66.9 %. The case was similar when comparison was made for Twitter as women had a percentage use of 16.5% as compared to 13.4 % that of the opposite sex. Unsurprisingly, the men were seen adopting more of Google+ as compared to women as men had a percentile count of 15.9 % compared to that of women which was merely 7.2 %. Google+ seems to have a ‘-1’ for the female counterpart as the statistics show that the reach of men on Google+ was more than double as compared to women. Here however the active reach includes an Android owner who uses an app within the last 30 days.
When women were socializing, men had been busy looking out for directions on Google Maps where they stood a firm 6.2 % more usability as compared to women who accounted for 71.9 %. Apart from these necessity-like apps, the other apps in the frequently-used list were like Amazon’s Kindle and Words With Friends in women’s list and apps like Quickoffice Pro and the Amazon Appstore in the men’s list.
Looking at the top six on every list, it is surprising that Android users have opted to use their mobile devices for those apps to which they could have access even via their PCs and laptops, except for the heart of Android, that is the Android Market. Google search, Gmail, Facebook, YouTube and Google Maps. The analysis looks like people have used their Android-powered devices mostly for a web app alternative, rather than making use of some of the unique apps available in the Android market. For Google it might still be a win-win situation as the top five or for that matter, even the top six apps allover have just Facebook which is not offered from the Google warehouse.
For the gaming section, Angry Birds along with Angry Birds Rio has been a major hit with the Android users as in the top 20 list, only ‘words with friends’ is one which accompanies Angry Birds. Seems like the gamers have been busy in many other activities on their Android devices, or have preferred not to play games on Android devices.
