WITH 5 MORE ADDITIONS KLOUT INCREASES ITS CLOUT

August 11, 2011 0

Online influence determiner Klout has doubled the number of its services adding Blogger, Flickr, Instagram, Last.fm and Tumblr to its scoring system, reported TechCrunch.

Joe Fernandez, Klout CEO told Mashable, “The networks we launched today were chosen to give the Klout score a more holistic view of influence. By adding blogging, photos and music to the interactions that we are already measuring we are moving closer to our goal of providing a complete picture of your influence.”

On the basis of the ways you drive actions among your online friends, followers or subscribers Klout will calculate your influence on these newly included networks.

The amount of activity a user or listener generates on their profile will almost certainly be a factor on Last.fm, said Fernandez. “Tumblr is a great example where reblogs and love are clear signals of influence, and Instagram provides likes and comments.”

Klout evaluates users’ behavior with complex ranking algorithms and semantic analysis of content to measure the influence of individuals on social networks.

Based on a user’s ability to drive action through Tweets, Retweets and more, Klout measures a user’s influence on Twitter. On Facebook, Klout will examine how conversations and content generate interest and engagement, via likes and comments on the network’s nearly 700 million users.

Though Klout has not specified how these new services will be factoring into your score, TechCrunch says you can make assumptions based on each individual network. For LinkedIn, Klout could be evaluating your number of connections, and updated on the site. Presumably, your Foursquare Klout will be based on how often you check in, how many mayorships you have earned etc.

Measurement could be how many likes you have on your pictures for Instagram, likewise for Flickr. Considering it is the first music-based service that Klout has added, Last.fm is an interesting addition. For Instagram, measurement could be how many likes you have on your pictures. Flickr could also use the same metric. Last.fm is an interesting addition, considering its the first music-based service that Klout has added. Perhaps a Spotify integration will come coon?

Klout also plans to add more service such as Google+. “We are already anticipating them launching their API. As soon as they make the data available we will be ready to add it to the Klout score,” said Fernandez.

If users log on to their Klout accounts now, they will notice that the dashboard now features grayed-out icons for the five newly-integrated services. Clicking on those icons will show their overall Klout score.

Users can choose to connect their accounts to their Klout score in their profile. Klout says that connecting an account will never lower your score, but may rather increase it. The scores range from 1 to 100 with higher scores representing a wider and stronger sphere of influence. Klout uses many variables on the various social platforms to measure True Reach, Amplification Probability, and Network Score.

The San Francisco based company which celebrated its 3rd anniversary on Wednesday began its services with only Twitter activity. Two years later it added Facebook.

But in June, it began factoring in LinkedIn and within the past month, it integrated Foursquare and YoutTube to its algorithm.
