WINDOWS 8: NIGHTMARE OR A BLESSING

July 19, 2011 0

Microsoft is making things happen for its recently launched Windows 8. Software giant is of the view that this next version will run on everywhere, it may be a tablet or a desktop. There are questions for now as to would it be really effective? This is one thing which not only one or two but many are asking.

Microsoft has made its users face considerable problems when using windows in their desktops and thinking of this OS working on tablets, one can imagine the problems which can be faced. Of course this new version will be well updated but there is one concern which will be in everyone’s minds and that is security problems which comes more or less free with Windows. Again regular updating is one thing which could be problematic. Would such conditions work good for tablets? Its a difficult question to answer.

It is definitely not the fault of Microsoft as its intention is clearly to keep Windows users safe from any malware, virus, hacking, etc. Constant update is even necessary to safeguard users from the hackers and all but if the updates are not as frequent as they have always been , it would be still a relief.

Tablet is as defined is different from a desktop or laptop as it is used only when it is needed. It is basically an auxiliary system which does not come into use all the time unless one is a hardcore user. Then why would one appreciate security updates which are on frequent basis. It would be frustrating as every time one uses their tablets, there would an update pending or already in its download stage in the background. The updates however can be postponed but that is still frustrating.

Another disadvantage of regular updates is that when direct updates take place, there may be a few unsaved applications which were left unsaved as it went into standby more. This would be no fun as everything would have to be recreated yet again. The next concern would be of maintenance which is again what Windows is used to. This can be terrible for tablet owners. One can configure the updates to apply even during late night but minimizes the impact-able use of tablets in the time to come. If the list of problems still looks fine, then there is actually more for one to know.

Tablets have a battery life which is long enough to survive the whole day at times without charging but it surely is no indication that one should use it for updating all night long. Tablet owners are not used to plugging in the charger every now and then but one may not know that when they are sleeping, suddenly there might come up an update on its own and drains of part of the tablet’s battery. One should not then even be surprised to see one’s screen showing a notification that it is to be rebooted as there was an update and for its completion it has to be rebooted. Lastly, the mobile OS which run on tablets do not have any maintenance overhead which Windows 8 would have.

The bottom line is that running a tablet like a computer is not a good idea and additionally it will not really be able to compete with the biggies in the market.
