WATERPROOF APPLE AND SAMSUNG SMARTPHONES?

January 17, 2012 0

Ever thought of watching your smartphone survive, even after it has had a ride in the water splashes? If no, this article might want you to think that way. At CES 2012, HZO, a tech company that specializes in smartphone waterproofing, introduced a technology, which could save a smartphone from getting damaged by water. This was confirmed by Pocket-lint, which said that the technology was restricted, as till now the technology is tested on Samsung a and Apple products only.

Samsung and Apple might be fighting against each other in a number of patent related cases, but it seems they will touch innovative standards at the same time too. This is not just any form of innovation, but an extreme one, which will raise the bar of a quality smartphone.

The company has had talks with the representatives of Apple and Samsung, and it seems the representatives are quite keen on using this technology on their smartphones.

The representative from HZO has said, “We showed the Samsung Chairman the technology with a Samsung Galaxy S that we had coated with HZO and he couldn’t believe his eyes. Samsung is really excited by the tech.” The website goes on to state that Apple has also been contacted by HZO and they were hoping to use this technology on the upcoming iPhone 5 as well.”

Briefing a bit more about this technology, it was said that the technology of water blocking is done during the manufacturing process, creating a nano-scale film barrier. This, the company claims has special water proofing properties that take place when applied on the insides of electronic gadgets.

Posted below are two videos, which show exactly, what the company intends to work on:

There are many cases, one can see on the Internet, where smartphone users have lost their memories and important contact, just because their devices were soaked in water. So, this technology can be a savior, if any such mishap takes place in the future.

Apart from this, in an unrelated development, Apple iPhone 4 /4S users have another exciting point to be happy about. Nissan, the car maker, has come up with an iPhone case, which is not just any ordinary phone case. According to an announcement by Nissan, it is a case that uses special paint technology, which can repair itself.

This technology had seen its development in 2005 by Nissan and since then has been used in a number of Nissan and Infinity car models. The development of the technology was by Nissan, along with the University of Tokyo and Advanced Softmaterials Inc. At that time, its usage was restricted to automotive use, as it was specifically designed for it.

But with this latest announcement, Nissan Scratch Shield iPhone case will definitely make rounds. In fact, the company has even said, “The outer ‘paint’ is made from polyrotaxane, which means that when damage occurs to the coating in the form of a fine scratch, the chemical structure is able to react to change back to its original shape and fill the gap – ‘healing’ the blemish.”

Some highlighting features on the Nissan Scratch Shield iPhone case are:

  • Fine scratches can quickly mend themselves

  • Scratch-resistant and easier-to-grip than normal glossy phone surfaces

  • Made from ABS plastic
