Twitter, the micro-blogging giant on Monday included a few features, which would help those users who intend to know who likes their posts and what the people they follow are doing at the popular micro-blogging network.
In August, when Twitter changes related to one’s favorites or retweets were rolled out, the San Francisco-based firm said in a blog post, “You can now see when someone favourites [likes] or retweets one of your Tweets.” It even continued noting, “You can also learn which Tweets are most interesting and inspiring to the people you follow.”
Finally, according to Twitter, the roll-out is complete on Monday.
A user can now click on “@username” tabs on home pages and they would see which of their terse musings or observations have been echoed, or “retweeted”, or given kudos by other users of the service.
To get a summary of what a user’s followers are up to, one can click on the “activity” tabs. It would provide them with user summaries of what the people the people they follow have been up to at the service.
In regards to the new “activity” tab, Twitter had a dedicated blog post, which noted, “It provides a rich new source of discovery by highlighting the latest Favourites, Retweets, and Follows from the people you follow on Twitter – all in one place.”
Basically the efforts from Twitter has been to let users see the minutiae of activity that revolves around them and the people they follow. Additionally, the users even get an opportunity to keep track of each and every mention they are into by others. Those who prefer staying update all the time in others business, may it be noting what tweets their friends are favoriting or who they’re following, this feature would prove all good.
Some might start comparing this feature to that of Facebook, which is without a filtering option. Facebook allows users to get notified with bits of information, which are broadcasted on one’s Facebook Wall. In Facebook, one can use the mute option, if they are of the thought that the notifications from some are “too active” in their notifications. Twitter’s new feature is quite similar, but lack of filtering option makes things unrestrictive for users.
However, this feature might not get into the eyes of each and every user, but it would be beneficial for all those users who have their interests in a voyeuristic standpoint or maybe are into the field of journalism or related activities.
Again, it is more like making a digital footprint, which would be available for vetting and gathering information about sources. This would be done in the same way, making it easy for one to broadcast who their sources are based on their own activity.
User response on the same is however to be awaited, as some would like it while some wont. Which side is heavier, is important to note.
