Facebook is in news yet again. Happily not for the negative reasons. Facebook ‘Timeline’ is out for Android users and interestingly, there is no update related to its iOS counterpart. Amazingly, the feature is available for Android smartphone and tablet users.
From the time Facebook has seen an update called ‘Timeline’, Facebook users have shown their interest in wanting to see the same on their smartphones and tablets. The social networking giant has finally announced the same, but is still to be rolled out for the iOS update.
In brief, the “Timeline” feature is one, which comes with new ways for people to discover and share music, movies, books and news. The same was unveiled by Facebook at a developers conference in September. In the words of Facebook itself, the social networking giant noted in a post, “Timeline gives you an easy way to rediscover the things you shared, and collect your most important moments.” It added, “It also lets you share new experiences, like the music you listen to or the miles you run.”
What changes would one see significantly with timeline? The answer to the same was noted by Facebook, saying, “Your new timeline will replace your profile, but all your stories and photos will still be there.”
In specific terms of the mobile timeline, Facebook’s Mick Johnson said in a blog post, “Mobile timeline starts with your unique cover photo.” He continued, “As you scroll down, you’ll see your posts, photos and life events as they happened, back to the day you were born.”
It can still be said that the move chosen by Facebook, is to promote its own partners on the mobile platform. Moreover, it would even help the participation of its partners like online music service Spotify or online streaming video services Netflix are to benefit from the change.
As a Facebook fan, one would say that Facebook is simplifying the task, may it be for listening to music, or for video streaming. That is even true to a certain extent.
With moving timeline to the mobile platform, Facebook has inched closer to two things:
-
One is the mobile ads. Facebook has shown interest in coming up with its own set of ads on the mobile platform, which will be in stiff competition with the likes of Google Inc and Apple Inc, who have established themselves throughly in the said field.
-
The other point is that Facebook will soon even be in competition with the cellphone manufacturers, as it will be in with its own branded mobile range.
This means that Facebook is on the right track to march ahead with its own army of 800+ million users.
The bottomline here is that, the future might not have many things to note, but for now, Facebook has gifted its users, at least Android users who like Facebook, a perfect Christmas gift to see and revive memories on the go.
