Talking about this feature in detail, the social media giant started testing this feature, early this week.
What is the basic purpose of ‘Suggested Events’?
Noting its name, it refers to those events, which are suggested to the users in general. Suggested events include only those events, which the option deems that a user might like to attend, but they were not explicitly invited for the same. For its placement, as noted above, it is placed under the sub-heading of ‘Events’. It even includes the list of events, which a user’s friends might attend.
Facebook, on its part has introduced a number of features in the recent past, but has kept it hidden. It surely has a purpose behind the same. Like the ‘Other Messages’, this feature even shows up only when the user clicks on the ‘Events’ tab, which is placed on the left-hand side. If one wants to directly open this list, they can do so by clicking at facebook.com/events/suggestions/.
Adding Facebook’s thoughts on the same, it was noted by a Facebook spokesperson, who stated thing as, “We’re testing the Suggested Events feature with a small percentage of users to offer people more events they might be interested in.” He further added, “In addition to recommending events that your friends are attending, we’re also suggesting events based on your likes and checkins and music you listen to through apps.”
Notably, ‘Suggested Events’ tab replaces the ‘old Friends Events’ menu option. It was basically done to expand the scope on one’s consideration.
Facebook, with this option, would be competing with a number of event discovery websites and apps.
Facebook has tested a number of features, some of which are still in the testing phase. Adding to the list, Suggested Events might see some light as, in comparison to many other features, this test seems to have a bigger and wider sample in use.
Comparing this feature with many other features, ‘Suggested Events’ feature is quite harmless and at the same time, it is informative, keeping users updated of their preferred events coming up. This feature proves to be safe for Facebook too, as the privacy issues would not be affected.
Privacy issue is the biggest and the most problematic issue of Facebook, as well as many other big daddies in the tech world. If a feature, helps in keeping such issues away, then there is a possibility that the feature can be well promoted too, without having a raised eyebrow of the critics.
