Stanford University in Palo Alto finally got access to Google’s fiber network. Google, in October last year had said that Google would give access to Stanford campus its much-awaited fiber network. Last week this network was out and the campus enjoyed the privilege without anyone paying anything extra for it as its the testing phase. Speedtest.net results were even posted by many a users which proved that Google has revolutionized the networks to run where they were just crawling earlier.
Last year in February, the search engine giant was hunting down ways to bring 1Gbps fiber, accessible to only a few selected area home networks across the US. Google had a worth fighting challenge on its hands. This even got cities, states and countries fighting to get their hands reserved on it. The claim came 18 months back and now we really see these networks of Google having their installation. Those who have been able to access these networks have posted their Speedtest.net results.
TheTeam, a Reddit user made a post which read “I just got Google Fiber.” The post had even an image which showed the upload and download speeds along with his Speedtest.net result. The result as expected was more than just amazing as he recorded the download to max at 151.68Mb/s, while the upload maxed at 92.79Mb/s. For streaming a movie or to enjoy a lag free online game, its too much.
The area where Google tested its new network was at the Stanford University campus as Google had indicated in October last year that Stanford campus would be the first location. The deal just got better in the testing phase as Google did not charge anything for the access. This means that the privilege was given which would be happy time for anyone to enjoy.
The question now is that Google has achieved this target after working on it for almost 18 months, then would the network operators make use of this opportunity? The investment is without any doubt of a big amount, but the point is that the first few takers would be able to target many more users. With big money, one can get big rewards here in the form of many more customers as compared to their competitors.
The Stanford University campus students would feel lucky, fortunate and happy as Google’s this network would come free to them till the search engine giant unleashes another fiber network which would be even bigger in Kansas City.
“Better than sliced bread” was how TheTeam described the service. He even said that now he would go ahead on a spree to download number of movies as the speed of the network gives him the license to dream of downloading the movies in a flash. He noted that downloading a movie was what he opted for as the first option after the installation was done of the network and it took less than 10 minutes to be done with it. He did not fail to post that the search engine giant had provided the residents with a wireless router for the area which after installation would have its attachment connected via Ethernet cable to the fiber network.
