Microsoft Bids Adieu To Windows Live Messenger March 15, Move Users To Skype

Redmond, Washington - Watch out for the Ides of March if you are still hanging around Microsoft's Windows Messenger Live. Back in November, the Redmond, Wash.-based software maker has hinted that its Messenger application will be closed down within months, with users migrated onto Skype, which Microsoft acquired in October 2011. But now the company has confirmed an end-of-life date for the popular chat service, and began informing Messenger users that the service would go blank for the majority of users on March 15. (more…)

Facebook Reportedly Expands Test Of New Single-Column Timeline Feature

Los Angeles -- Remember the Facebook Timeline changes we reported to you last month, Facebook has been working on a redesign of Timeline away from the 2 column layout. Well, the social media giant is continues to expand its test that revamps users' Timelines by creating a single, more prominent column for statuses and posts, as well as redesigns the section headers by doing away with the clunky image boxes that had appeared since Timeline first launched. This time, some users in New Zealand were able to discover the new feature which, according to them, has since gone live yesterday.

Germany Declines To Be Friends With Facebook Over Alleged Privacy Violations

Germany -- In a surprising turn of events, a German state data protection agency has threatened Facebook's billionaire founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg with a €20,000 (£16,000) fine if Facebook does not permit Germans to have anonymous accounts on the social network.

A German state data protection agency has already sent letters to Zuckerberg in California, and also to Dublin-based Facebook Ireland Ltd, reiterating that the current terms of service for Facebook, which require users to provide their identities, violate German law. (more…)

Google Says It Will Enable Maps On Windows Phone After Al

Mountain View, California -- Over the weekend, an unethical controversy erupted after users reported that attempts to access Google Maps on Windows Phone devices led to redirects to the Google homepage. Google confirmed the redirect on Friday, and said it will be “soon” removing the block on its Maps service for Windows Phone handsets using the Internet Explorer browser.
