The end result might be disclosed soon, but for now, the news is that SetJam is acquired by Motorola Mobility. The same was reported by Peter Kafka at AllThingsD.
SetJam provides online video listings and data, which includes Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, Cartoon Network, MTV, Disney, Nickelodeon, Adult Swim, Spike, iTunes, TBS, CBS, WB, FX, South Park Studios, Comedy Central, CrunchRoll, FOX, TNT and Crackle as its sources. Along with it, SetJam offers web widgets, a downloadable database (XML), REST API and custom intergration for various players via data partnerships, product strategies, interface design, custom data and custom development.
SetJam stated, “At SetJam, we’re fully dedicated to making online TV as simple as traditional TV.” He added, “That’s why, in addition to our 3 product lines, we’re offering custom integration services, to help you bring the power of online TV & movie content to your device or application.”
According to VentureBeat, SetJam CEO Ryan Janssen wrote about the acquisition in an e-mail. He didn’t disclose financial terms though.
“I’m writing to let you know that today SetJam was acquired by Motorola Mobility. We are all very excited about this transition here at SetJam. Motorola and SetJam share the vision of making content delivery, discovery, and consumption seamless across any screen, and as a world leader in video technology, Motorola will provide us with unprecedented levels of reach and distribution.
I want to take this moment to personally thank you for your continued encouragement and support over the past two years. None of this success would have been possible without your backing and belief in us. While this acquisition was in process, we’ve had to be far less communicative than we normally would be. We greatly look forward to reconnecting with all of you in the New Year. In the mean time, we wish you a happy and healthy holiday season!”
For the company’s history, SetJam is a tiny New York City-based startup, originated as a Web site for finding videos online.
Coming back to the Google connection, the search engine giant has been planning a number of options to firm its foot in the TV section too. SetJam would help Google to add a number of features to the Google TV. If that is to happen, then Google can actually be effective with its TV intentions.
There would be more to connect to the same, as yet again Motorola seems to have infringed another patent, which belongs to the Microsoft intellectual property.
