SEO.com Domain Sells For $5,000,000

June 21, 2007 0

DotSause.com reports SEO.com has been sold to WashingtonVC for $5 million.

Mike Mann is a prominent internet entrepreneur who sold BuyDomains Company a few years ago for more than $65 million.

His latest tech venture is just that, a venture capital firm based in Washington D.C. which goes by the name of WashingtonVC.

Mann recently announced the purchase of SEO.com by WashingtonVC for $5 million as well as the formation of an SEO firm led by Dave Bascom.

The new domain will be for an SEO company led by Dave Bascom, who currently runs an SEO company named Web Targeted and blog named Search Trends. Jay mentions this new domain will give them a huge advantage over the fierce competition of Search Engine Optimizers.

Dave Bascom said on his blog:

“I’m SUPER excited about this change and look forward to the challenge of taking this SEO Company to a much higher level. We have still got the same great team of SEO experts, plus a few new faces. SEO.com will continue to be a search engine optimization firm, but our website will also offer lots of good stuff like SEO resources, tools, articles, tips, and insight into the SEO/SEM industry.”

As the snippet above mentions, the expected value comes from the ranking advantage they hope to gain from using this domain for a search engine optimization business. By ranking high for that term, they should gain both targeted traffic and credibility as an SEO business.

It should be interesting to track the progress of their SEO firm gaining ranking for SEO terms with this new domain.

You can currently find Web Targeted’s web site on the SEO.com domain name.
