Google and Facebook share only one similarity for the time being and that is both these giants are ruling their fields. Google rules the search engine world while Facebook is the most popularly used social networking site. Facebook actually has a list of more than 700 million users which in fact is a dream come true. However its still growing and can easily achieve the 1 billion mark in the times to come.
Talking in the monetary terms, Google had recently saved drowning U.S. stock market by boosting up their shares to a high. An unbelievable rise by 13 % was something which usually doesn’t happen on a day to day basis. Google in fact already has a market capital of almost 200 billion USD. In comparison, Facebook is planning to jump in with its IPO. However its already being estimated that this is an IPO which could easily value to anything more than 100 billion USD.
Its is a competitive world but Google has been working hard still to move into various other fields which looks to succeed at times and which fails most of the times. Google moved into the mobile world with Android and has got huge success but social networks, NEVER!! Google+ however promises to be Google’s best bet in the social world with a lot more to offer.
But what could be the main reason behind Google’s social attempts? Selling ads, is it? Facebook and Google sell a huge number of ads and this could be one of the major reasons why Google wants to get a good hold in the social world. Facebook already has a database which is massive and this eases Facebook troubles to sell ads. Google, on the other hand even has a search data which is again massive but the social media network giant has the ability to turn metal into gold with its marketing tactics. Google+ is yet new and has an ad-free and clean user interface. But for how long it can keep it clean is the question.
Google+ has started with a bang but its continued success is no guarantee. The reason is that till now there is no major activity one can carry out on Google+. Many have even made their accounts on Google+ because they were invited by their friends, etc. For the usage, it isn’t really great. It has no games for now and application which Facebook users are used to are still being missed. However, sharing posts is one thing which helps Google+ get an upper hand. One can share their posts which can be public or limited. One can even limit it to just a single user or even to a specific circle. But it will have to come up with many more unique features which look attractive even while using them which will be a huge challenge for Google+.
Google unlike Facebook has majorly tried to diversify which is maybe another reason why it has not got success in many a cases. Additionally, it has a huge growth in the list of competitors which at times merge to defeat Google’s cause. Recently, Microsoft with the help of Apple bought the Nortel Patents which is a huge loss for Google’s Android world. This again will pressurize Google+ to perform even better.
