San Francisco — Enjoying digital discoveries with fun and engaging pinboard-style photo sharing based social networking service Pinterest, which allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, hobbies and more has enhanced its Android app, adding better group board support.
The latest update on Android was detailed over the weekend on their blog and is now available in the Play Store as version 1.3.2 which adds better support for group boards.Henceforth, that update is now live and available from both the Google Play Store and the Kindle app store. Also, a large component of the changes were to simplify the use of app, more social, and enhance the groups and group management of Pinterest. So, those who often use Pinterest from their Android mobile will be happy with the changes, which improve the overall experience while adding some handy functionality that was previously lacking.
However, without disclosing too much, the company stated on its blog, “We made the navigation more intuitive, so it is faster to get to where you want to go.” A look at the screenshots showed that the navigation panel received a big facelift.
Frequent Pinterest users would certainly appreciate the changes made to the app, as the update focuses on its group boards, improving the overall experience of the app and also add some functionality which was lacking previously. More so, the update is all about board contributors as well as groups you view and follow. For those oblivious, it is like the people you follow on Instagram, only for Pinterest.
With the update in effect, the newer features introduced by this update gives users the option to check out which other contributors are pinning to the same board as you, allowing you to spot those with similar interests, for example. Making the experience more friendly and social.
Strangely though, on previous versions of the app, the option to leave group boards was not available, but you can now quit group boards that you have already joined and do not need anymore.
Similarly, users now have more control over boards in general. When you receive a new board invitation, you will have the option of either accepting it and declining right on the app itself thus making the app much more usable.
The attractive service was launched in 2010, Pinterest is a collector’s abode for saving fashion, decor, and recipe finds to digital scrapbooks called “boards.” The social-networking service, which ended 2012 with 27.2 million unique visitors, also allows like-minded types to save and share their discoveries together on group boards.
Nevertheless, the incremental app update is a teeny-weeny announcement, though it does underscore a running theme for 2013 around continual little improvements. The app empowers users to pin images from the device’s camera as well as images found online. Users can grab the update from the Google Play Store; it is available for Android 2.2 and higher, and is 5.5MB in size. You can check out its other features, as well as screenshots of the app, at the Play Store here.
