Microsoft’s Bing Releases Updated App For iPhone With Travel, Maps Features

September 28, 2010 0

Redmond, Washington — If you love the iPhone but you are a Microsoft fan at heart, you are certainly already familiar with the Bing app for iPhone. In its attempt to keep the Bing for Mobile iPhone app head-to-head in the swiftly evolving mobile OS space, Redmond-based software maker on Monday released yet another update for the iPhone and iPod Touch to version 1.3, enhancing the travel features, simplifying maps and adding relevant business and neighborhood labels to help users quickly find locations, the company announced on the Bing Community blog.

The latest update version mainly focuses on enhancing the mapping experience for the user as well as offering a couple new travel features for you jetsetters, explorers or those of you who are just prone to getting lost.

The first big update is the Travel section. The Bing Community says:

Users can check out affordable flights from their home airport and beyond by clicking the Travel button on the home page, in addition to last minute and weekend deals, and using the interactive Deals calendar, you can easily see when those great prices are available. Also, if you have a particular trip in mind, you can use flight search to find a great fare. Utilize the “estimated price” preview to see fares for alternate dates or airports, and look to the Price Predictor to know when to buy your airfare. When users look up flights, the Predictor will advise them to either “buy now” or “wait” (left) based on whether or not the fare is excepted to go up or down. Bing Travel Hot Deals highlights travel steals from around the globe. The app also allows travelers to check out flight statuses.

Or if you are already headed for the airport, use Bing Travel’s flight status feature to see if your flight is on time. For Maps, Bing goes on:

More specifically, the software maker has carried over yet more functionality from the PC-based Bing browser. The latest update also sports a redesigned map function. We have improved the backdrop so information on the map such as traffic details, business listings, pushpins, labels, etc. could pop. Font sizes have been increased to mark larger roadways, “nearby” items have been added and users can switch between map and list views. The company has worked to make the layout of the interface more visually appealing, and the app now offers labels that make content more visible on the map.

Now that you have enhanced capabilities in Maps and bundled with tons of traveler information in the Travel section, you are sure to admire the experience, and if you have not downloaded or tried the Bing app for iPhone as yet, give it a whirl from the iTunes store. It is absolutely free!
