Microsoft Unveils Bing Desktop Beta, Now Available For Download

April 5, 2012 0

Redmond, Washington — In what seems like a preliminary test before Windows 8, software behemoth Microsoft has quietly released an application called Bing Desktop, a combination of search toolbar and desktop manager for Windows 7, via the Microsoft Download Center today.

By the way, Windows desktop backgrounds can already be changed automatically, but having a dedicated search bar is generally as easy as alt-tabbing into an open browser.

Bing already boasts some pretty cool homepage images as its background, which are usually quite good. But now with the latest release of a small application by Microsoft dubbed as Bing Desktop you can easily enjoy the beauty of the Bing homepage image as your desktop background wallpaper that changes daily with the Bing homepage image. Plus, get easy access to the Bing search box right from your desktop. Turn your searching into doing with Bing.

In addition, Bing Desktop offers an easily accessible yet unobstrusive search box to streamline searching without opening the browser. After installing the app it automatically changes the wallpaper and adds a Bing search box at the center of your desktop as shown in the image above.

Moreover, when you are not using the search box it will automatically fade away, so it would not obstruct your already crammed desktop. You can reactivate the search box by hovering your mouse on the top of the screen, or by pressing Windows Key + H.

At only 1.4 MB in size, the application can be downloaded from Bing Desktop Beta.
