Microsoft Rolls Out Live Search News Alerts Service

January 19, 2009 0

New York — People who are constantly on the go and hardly find time to get themselves updated on the current news, the Windows Live Search blog has recently announced a ‘News Alert’ feature that enables users to have news delivered to their email, daily, twice daily or weekly.

The service is analogous to Google News Alert; that lets users select only those news stories which are related to your search term. But unlike Google News Alert, Live Search’s news delivery service empowers you to choose top headlines or subject-specific news headlines.

Customers having a “Windows Live ID” can now sign-up for e-mail alerts based on their area of interest. You have the ability to have them delivered every day, twice a day, or once a week.

You can choose to get top headlines from Business, World, U.S., Politics, Entertainment, Sports, Sci/Tech, and Health. And just in case your favorite news category is not listed, you can define a specific search result. You can define as many different alerts as you want and send them to any email address associated with a Live ID.

This new service is currently available to the residents of United States, but users’ who are smart enough can go here and select the United States and are good to go. Setting up your alerts:

  • Go to news.live.com.
  • Sign in with your Windows Live ID.
  • Click “News Alert” on the top right hand side of the page.
  • Select your category or topic.
  • Select delivery option.
  • Create alert.

Windows Live Search maybe a little late in offering this kind of service but it could still be a useful feature especially for those who prefer Windows Live Search as their search engine, as well as news.live.com as their first-hand source of news.
