Redmond, Washington — Striving to spread its product far and wide, Microsoft’s OneNote users in the UK will be excited to know that the app has now been updated to version 1.2, and marks the first time the Brits can officially use a Microsoft Office tool on an iOS device with a whole bunch of new features.
OneNote for the iPhone is an app that allowed users to easily capture notes, ideas, create lists and stay organized was released in the US in January, on Tuesday, the software monopolist rolled out OneNote Mobile 1.2 for iPhone, which brings new search, synchronization and sharing features. At the same time, the company said it is releasing the app in the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
The newly released iOS version of the OneNote note-taking software has similar features to the original Windows Phone 7 app.
Interestingly, the latest release of OneNote Mobile is equipped with the following new capabilities such as: Search — to find text in notebook, sections and pages, Pin recent notes — to keep your favorite notes at the top of the Recently Viewed list, Sync shared notebooks — for syncing notebooks that are being shared with other people as well, Choose the notebooks that sync to your phone and appear on the Home screen — basically more control over which notebooks you would like to keep synced, Set image size for photos, and a new color scheme to improve the look and feel of the app.
In addition, people can write notes on the handset, synchronize them to Windows Live SkyDrive cloud storage, then pick up the work on a PC or mobile device, including those shared with other users, and a Search tool to quickly find information within text in notebooks. Besides, users will also be able to retain their favorite notes at the top of their Recently Viewed list, and now have the option to set the image size for photos.
Microsoft said that the announcement demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to creating innovative products across a range of platforms. Even, for the users in the US their version is now vastly improved with new functionality, including the ability to search across recent notebooks, image capture (which, like everything, will sync across your cloud-based notes to appear instantly in desktop of web app versions of OneNote) and access to shared notebooks.
However, it raises the question of whether Microsoft intends to unfurl iPhone versions of the other applications in its mobile suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, which are all built into Windows Phone handsets.
Responding to queries from V3, the company stated that it has a multi-platform scheme for Office, and that its go-to-market time-line differs for each platform.
“We have nothing to announce for now, but there are Web Apps of Microsoft Office that can be accessed from the iPhone,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.
OneNote Mobile 1.2 is now available for free for a limited time from the Apple App Store.
