MICROSOFT EXTENDS RELATION WITH SUSE FOR $100 MILLION

Microsoft is extending their relations with SUSE Linux Enterprise as they commit to invest 100 million USD for the new certificates. This venture would be up to the 1st of January, 2016. Five years ago, the software giant had entered into an agreement with Novell for a large scale collaboration for Linux support and interoperability with Windows. Now as SUSE is Attachmate’s independent business unit, they made an announcement for the coming four years as an extension to the previous contract. This collaboration will let Microsoft users to receive Linux support.

In a blog post, Sandy Gupta, general manager of Microsoft’s open solutions group, stated that after carrying out a survey which was made over the last five years, he expects the technical collaboration would help in building relations further. Gupta termed the management of the systems as a critical building block and would be good specifically for cross-platform virtualization. According to Gupta, they are working hard to help their customers to get hold of the cloud as the customers had sentimentally expressed their thoughts on the future of this collaboration which was to end soon.

The customers of this collaboration have been ranging from financial services to health care and from oil and gas to manufacturing. For the count there have been 725 customers all over the world. There is an added benefit provided from SUSE’s end for the customers so that they get the consolidation for their Linux support. For Linux Enterprise Server, SUSE offers subscription support . This is an active option even for community Linux distributions such as CentOS and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

BBVA Bank is one of the largest in its sector in Spain and its infrastructure manager, Fernando Martinez said, “We rely on the SUSE Expanded Support Program to migrate part of our IT operations to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, as it supports our objectives for greater interoperability for our Windows and Linux systems.” The collaborated companies are gunning for another extension which would integrate SUSE Manager and Microsoft Hyper-V Cloud and additionally selected technologies would work for enhancing the updating, patching and deploying of Linux.

BridgeWays’ global vice president, James Largotta said that a decent number of their customers have been helped for the standardization on SUSE because of the collaborated company’s expanded support program. He added that it has additionally been a cost-effective support program which has been helpful for even Red Hat and many other distributions which are of non-SUSE nature. Concluding on a high note he said that the partnership between SUSE and the software giant has been co-linking as their work is on a similar basis and it would further help as the private cloud is emerging and touching new heights.

Sandy Gupta said that he has personally met a few IT executives globally in a span of twelve months and has discussed a number of issues which would be solved if they make use of the collaborated services. Some of the problems which would be resolved are virtualization solutions, HPC or any other different workloads or/and management which would be in a miscellaneous data center environment.
