MICROSOFT ADCENTER ISSUE FRUSTRATES CUSTOMERS

September 2, 2011 0

Software Giant Microsoft’s adCenter online advertising platform had been facing service problems since 29th August afternoon. This was noted via the updates it posted on Twitter. However, it was quick to add that they were working on addressing the issue. The problems were faced by many customers of Microsoft adCenter who later on reported their problems. It was noticed that the problem in the system was on for quite a few hours. The response from Microsoft’s adCenter Twitter account came at around 6 p.m. ET on August 29, where it tweeted that they were facing an issue and it was being addressed. Microsoft’s adCenter platform shares a similarity with Google AdWords, as it even provides pay-per-click advertisements.

The customers had to however cry out their frustrations till the issue was resolved and Twitter was again a medium for the same. Some of the notable tweets read:

“If your having trouble logging into @adCenter support tells me they are having system-wide issues,” said Tweeter Matthew Heeb (@heeber)

“Can’t catch a break! Trying to launch new PPC ad campaign today and #Microsoft #adCenter is totally down – no ETA,” said Tweeter Brian Fritton (@bfritton) around 5:30 p.m. ET.

James Zolman (@jameszol) asked via Twitter for an update, noting that it had “been over an hour now at least” since he could log in.

Andrea Loar (@andraloar) also tweeted around 5: 30 p.m. ET that she was “frustrated with @adCenter – have been getting ‘experiencing problems’ message for several hours now.”

The next update one would had seen on the adCenter blog was on 9:30 p.m. ET on August 29. The blog post here stated that the main issue of today’s issue was discovered. It even was blogged that the team members of adCenter were working on the issue aggressively so that it could be resolved. Another point it emphasized on was for the customers to know that their ads were still being served and there was no disruptions to service. The issue was affecting only the log in of the customers.

Talking about the outage of the adCenter recently, when asked about its relating to the other recent Microsoft Online Services outages, a spokesperson said that the issue as mentioned was not related to the infrastructure. It was only in as an application only issue. He continued saying that this outage had no linking up to any other service of Microsoft.

Regarding this matter, there are blurring information pieces which do not make it clear as to is the adCenter running on the same datacenter infrastructure as other Microsoft Online Services or no. The main concerning services of Microsoft which can be running on the same datacenter infrastructure are Dynamics Online CRM, Office 365 and BPOS (Business Productivity Online Suite).

However there was more news for adCenter, but does not relate to the said issue. The adCenter team had a blog post which noted the upcoming changes to its ad quality and relevancy policy. The post even noted that the said changes would come into effect on August 31.
