As expected earlier, the TV market share was to get a switch over, as many potentials were to enter the market, with their brands. May it be from the Apple warehouse or from any other manufacturer, who are branded, but do not really have any share in the TV market. Google is even working on Google TV, which has only seen failure till now, will be back soon, with a better look and interface, to keep up with the pace of its competitors. However, the recent entrant to the TV industry is Chinese PC giant Lenovo.
Lenovo is not planning a blunt show, with its first TV in the market, as it has stuffed the set with a number of features, which can potentially help the company earn a decent share in no time. Lenovo introduced the same at the Consumer Electronics Show recently.
The company call its first TV product, by the name Lenovo K91 Smart TV, which will be the first TV to run the Android 4.0 operating system, that is the Ice Cream Sandwich. Moreover, as the first smart TV running Android 4 in the world, Lenovo has deepened its thoughts on aiming to “unite three major smart TV functions” with the K91. They are Video on Demand, Internet applications and traditional TV programs.
Noting the size, the LED model will be a 55-inch 3-D (240Hz refresh rate) model, which will lure the want list of a number of consumers. There is another model too, which would be a base model, sized 42- inch.
For the storage, as the TV set has a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual core processor, 1 gig of RAM, the K91 owners will be able to enjoy a hard drive with 8 gigs of storage, plus a removable 2GB SD card.
That is not all, the K91 is even the first TV, which is to be powered by Qualcomm’s 1.5 gigahertz dual-core SnapDragon 8060 CPU. This noted that the Lenovo TV owners would be able to get their hands on the “thousands” of apps from the Android Market and the Lenovo Store. However, it is still unclear that in which way, the company will highlight TV-optimized apps.
For those, who want to experience their laptop and PC cam experience, the K91 sports a 5-megapixel webcam, which will open it up to the world of video chat and facial recognition. To clear the lingering thoughts in regards to the touchpad and the talking interface, the company noted that the remote will feature a touchpad and integrated mic, and there will be a gamepad with 3-axis gyro available as well.
Agreed, this does not guarantee success, but Lenovo, with this step has only encouraged a number of other computer makers to jump in to the list of the television makers. Google is the best example of the TV market failure. Google, the search engine giant could have lured millions and billions to use its TV set, but even after repeated attempts to improve its share, Google has not been able to have a strong hold in the TV sector.
In either case, this move from Lenovo will only raise the bar for competition and the beneficiaries of the same would only be the consumers.
