Apple, after the demise of its mastermind, Steve Jobs, seems to be going wayward. On October 4th, the company had plans to announce its iCloud and iOS 5 features on Wednesday, October 12th, that is today. But before one could get further detailing on the same, the tech giant has pushed in another update which is for its latest version of iTunes. iTunes 10.5 is now available for one to download, may one be a Mac user or Windows.
Apple might have timed the iTunes update at the right time, which is just a few hours before the awaited dropping in of the upcoming iCloud and iOS 5 features. However, it could have been better if they would have updated the trio at the same time.
Nevertheless, iTunes update is yet another clean update from the Apple warehouse as iTunes 10.5 would bring one’s iTunes in the Cloud. The biggest advantage one would notice here is that once they download a song from their Apple devices, it would automatically appear in their other Apple devices. For example, if one has an Apple device at their home as well as in office, a track download from one device would make the track available automatically at the other device too.
Apple’s iCloud would allow users to view a complete download history, which would not just be informative, but users can even re-download those tracks which have been purchased by them in the past via any of their Apple devices. iTunes 10.5 would even make use of iOS 5 which would be witnessed by users in a couple of hours. At the same time, it would even allow syncing via Wi-Fi effortlessly. Some assume it to pave the path for the upcoming launch.
Briefing about what this iTunes update will have for the users, Apple said that one would have to pay $24.99 a year, to use the service, but in return it would have a lot to make one happy. According to Apple –
Here’s how it works: iTunes determines which songs in your collection are available in the iTunes Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to your iCloud library for you to listen to anytime, on any device. Since there are more than 19 million songs in the iTunes Store, chances are, your music is already in iCloud. And for the few songs that aren’t, iTunes has to upload only what it can’t match. Which is much faster than starting from scratch. Once your music is in iCloud, you can stream and store it to any of your devices. Even better, all the music iTunes matches plays back from iCloud at 256-Kbps AAC DRM-free quality — even if your original copy was of lower quality.
The update can be summarized as below:
-
iTunes in the Cloud: iTunes now stores your music and TV purchases in iCloud and makes them available on your devices anywhere, any time, at no additional cost.
-
Automatic Downloads: Purchase music from any device or computer and automatically download a copy to your PC and iOS devices.
-
Download Previous Purchases: Download your past music, TV, app, and book purchases again, at no additional cost. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store.
-
Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.
-
Wi-Fi Syncing: Automatically sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes any time they’re both on the same Wi-Fi network.
-
Note: iTunes 10.5 no longer requires or includes QuickTime.
