iPhone users now will have a much better reading experience as Scribd has launched a new application which is named Float. Scribd is popular enough and needs no introduction as it is a website which is developed so that the users can read and share news stories and documents. It is so well designed that in every way one’s reading experience on mobile will be improved.
The app is fast and user friendly. It allows a reader to choose any number of websites which are their favorite and areas which would be of their interest. One can simply just ‘follow’ and they would get the latest stories related to the topics and websites chosen on a consistent basis. Another option is of choosing their preferred stories and either store it in their ‘library’ which can be helpful to be read in future.
If one wants to customize their page as to how it looks, then there is a provision for that too. One can choose a night reading mode which would be with a black background, or a newspaper style sepia tone, or just to change the font size. It in fact gives a feel like one is reading on any other popular app like Nook or Kindle. Yet again one can connect to Float and share their preferred news articles via their Scribd, Twitter and Facebook accounts.
This is again unique because one is at easy and do not face and real problem while reading it on their smartphones or any other small device as these web pages are converted into a specific Float format. This eases the problems which one usually faces while reading any topic on a full-fledged web page.
Scribd has come into partnership dealings with hundred and fifty websites because if a content is scrapped then the owners of the specific websites do get angry as their full article is not correctly posted. Scribd would convert content of these websites to Float format. The websites who are in partnership include Wired, Time, TechCrunch, TheStreet, Scientific American, Salon, People, InStyle, HuffingtonPost, Fortune, Entertainment Weekly, Engadget, The Atlantic, The Associated Press and Allrecipes.com. Along with the above there are 3 CBS Interactive properties namely CNET, CHOW, and CBSNews.com.
‘Floating text’ is yet another interesting feature which one would notice in this app. Using this feature one can use it actually like a book to go right or left or even like a browser and move up or down. There is even a ‘library’ which would allow one to organize and archive each and every reading in order according to title, publisher and date. One would even notice magnification of one-touch font. The off-line readers even have something for them. ‘Reading list’ is for them. One can sync their content to Float.com with the help of content synchronization.
There are even a number of reading styles which can be used by the reader and are custom which would be a good for experimental user majorly. This includes sunlight reading and night time reading. Sharing again is not at all problem and it is just two clicks away from being shared on Facebook or Twitter or to one’s email.
For iPhone users, here is a link from where one can download this app for free. However one can expect ads to come up later which would act as a source for generating income. Its coming up that Scribd as for an app will soon even be out for iPad and Android users later during the year.
