Apple has finally unveiled its latest masterpiece, but it seems that even after a number of innovative features, the company has been frustrating their fans to a great extent. The main reason maybe that Apple has not named this new launch as iPhone 5, instead named it as iPhone 4S. But the features incorporated are more than just improvements over iPhone 4.
Apple has added in a few unique features which would still be catchy for an Apple fan. Firstly, as expected Apple has got is an A5 processor, which was known to many. Secondly, they have incorporated “Siri”, the technology which was a notable feature, but Android users know it quite well as it has been in Android-based devices already. The only addition to this known feature is noted as experts say Apple’s integration was more fluid — a hallmark of the company. One can note the differences between this device and its predecessor here.
Apple’s reputation has been its major strength and with launch would even shout out that Apple fans would still buy it, whatever maybe the case. But noting Android’s progress rate, Apple might have to come up with iPhone 5 as soon as possible and inclusion of a few extraordinary features would be a must. Apple’s biggest competitor, Samsung, has been growing its global sales at a much faster rate as compared to Apple and is eating into Apple’s market share with every passing day. Nielsen data notifies that Apple’s smartphone was No. 2 in the United States with a 28 percent market share, as Android has the upper hand with 43 percent.
Talking about the sales of Apple’s latest smartphone, BGC Partners’ analyst, Colin Gillis noted that its a mild disappointment, but Apple would still be lucky to ship millions of units. He however even said, “It’s been 16 months and all you’ve got is an A5 processor in the existing iPhone 4.”
For its price, if one opts to buy a 16GB iPhone 4S with a contract, the costing starts at $199 with pre-orders starting October 7. the 32GB and the 64 GB iPhone 4S would cost you accordingly for $299 and $499 respectively with a contract. With this launch, iPhone sees to improve its iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS sales too as the contract price for the former is slashed to $99 and the latter would be available for free to customers who sign a long-term contract.
The revised contracted price for iPhone 4 and 3GS, would mainly help Apple to improve its Asian market, where Samsung has a better hold amongst smartphone lovers. There was even a comparison posted, which detailed the differences between iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S II, which can be noted here.
Talking about the looks of the new iPhone 4S, it is quite identical to its predecessor, which has been disappointing yet again as Apple fans were of the thought that they would get a thinner, bigger-screened design. Apple maybe has that under the wraps and maybe its reserved for iPhone 5. whatever may be the case, but the fact is that the disappointment has struck Apple significantly as one might notice that its shares fell as much as 5 percent, before recovering with the broader market to close down 0.6 percent.
Many assumed that the launch would be a grand one as Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, made his first major product launch since he was crowned CEO, but the buzz was louder than the actual excitement one was expecting out of it.
