Google Updates Gmail, Hits Google Play Store With Added Features

April 9, 2012 0

New York — In its latest attempt to extend more frills, Google has just pushed out a trio of updates for its wildly popular Gmail app and Play Books for Android, which includes a new slate of features primarily available only for Honeycomb tablet users, as well as added more feature to Street View for Google Maps.

Essentially what the update does is that they have unfurled all the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich features in Gmail to Honeycomb tablets, and the update is currently live for download on the Google Play Store.

This means Google has decided to give Honeycomb users a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich with this tablet-centric update. Users can now seamlessly swipe between new and old conversations and set unique notifications for labels, as well as sync the last 30 days of messages for offline storage so you can read them.

That is good news for those with Honeycomb tablets that wont see updates. As for those with an Android phone, on version 2.2 and 2.3, Google has some support that gives access to labels for the API for third-party developers. All in all, it is a cool minor update for Honeycomb users who want to get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich.

As for Play Books, which saw a small update but it is mainly geared for older android 2.2 and 2.3 devices. The app has also received some pretty cool features for Froyo and Gingerbread devices, with some performance improvements.

Besides, a new UI is also in store for those users, and now they have a 3D animated page turning and a new and improved user interface while reading books, so that is nice. In addition, they have also updated Google Maps Street View. Users now have access to street view in South Korea and Russia, and those using Android 4.0 ICS have access to the action bar now too.

Overall these updates are nothing major, but those with Honeycomb or older devices will all benefit from the new changes in this Google app updates. If you want to download the update for your Android device now from the Google Play Store and enjoy.
