Google has many tools which have helped the webmasters to sped up their sites but looks like Google wants to further help the webmasters with a few more tools which would help them increase the speed of their pages. There has been a new launch and this tool would supersede one’s Web server. It is called Page Speed Service, and it is a service which would be actually provided online.
Page Speed Service is a tool which works to fetch the content of one’s web server. This fetched content is then cached on the servers of Google. There is a requirement for this service to serve webmasters. DNS on one’s site has to be pointed towards Google. What happens then? The visitors of one’s site are basically shifted to the servers of Google instead of the user’s website. The mirroring of the servers which is all over the world, there is no more issues relating to network traffic. This will result in quick loading of the servers of a user’s website as now it is via Google servers.
A giant like Google can only provide webmasters with this option as it has unparalleled computing power. Additionally, the service offered would guarantee quick loading of one’s website. The tests which Google has done on a few websites, showed that the speed increased by more than 60% of its normal loading speed. There are a few more services offered by Google which include action items and reports which would directly sped up the site. In fact there are a few cases wherein Google moved a step ahead to rewrite web pages for optimizing them to improve the speed on an automatic basis. This would be an incredible but a complex task to be done on a large scale.
For quite some time, the time taken for one’s page to load has been a kind of ranking signal. There have been tools earlier which the search engine giant has come up with which helps a user to come to know at what speed page loads of a website. These tools include Page Speed Labs (complete with API), plug-in in Chrome which is Page Speed and Site Speed Report in Analytics. They help in optimizing the speed of one’s site.
However this is new tool is a bit catchy as it is not a page optimizer, but is tricked out hosting the DNS will have to be pointed out to one’s own website, but that of Google. This would mean that if there is a search for a user’s website then the answer would be from Google’s servers and not from the servers of the user. So, if there is an update from at the user’s website, Google will first cache it and then it would be all over the world’s servers.
For the monetary value, one might feel happy that whatever may be the case, its still free and they would continue to get this service for free forever. But that is not the case. The plans from Google’s end suggests that this tool would be free of cost to just a few webmasters that too for a limited period. In future however, the service would have the ‘paid’ tag, but as the search engine giant claimed that the price tag would still be competitive.
