Google to adapt ‘Semantic Search’ method

March 19, 2012 0

Google has decided to put an end to the unrelated search results that pop up just due to the huge number of keywords used by the websites.

To ensure that the visitors get the relevant search results, Google will now tweak the way the ‘Page Rank’ system works. Till date, this system has been using a series of metrics that include the number and location of keywords and the number of incoming links to decide the ranking of pages in search results. Taking a step forward towards improvement of the search results, Google will now be adapting an enhanced way for the relevancy of results– ‘Semantic Search’.

As Mr. Matt Cutts say that their goal is to “level the playing field” against “all those people doing, for lack of a better word, over optimization or overly SEO–versus those making great content and great sites”. Semantic Search will definitely make the achievement of this goal easier, as this method focusses on understanding the meaning of the keywords used to find the content rather than simply picking up the words. This way you will undoubtedly be lead to the quality content and relevant websites than the junk ones full of the relevant keywords and irrelevant content. Cutts also added, ‘We try to make the GoogleBot smarter, try to make our relevance more adaptive, so that if people don’t so SEO we handle that. And we are also looking at the people who abuse it, who put too many keywords on a page, exchange way too many links, or whatever else they are doing to go beyond what you normally expect. We have several engineers on my team working on this right now’.

With the good news for google users, follows a bad news for search engine optimisers. The sites making heavy or irrelevant use of keywords just to rank first or amongst the top ten search results of Google will be penalised. No further information on how the companies will be penalised or what penalty will be imposed has been given by the Google. The websites that make excessive use of keywords or incoming page links are going to be the first ones to be hit by the penalty. And websites that provide relevant content is going to be benefited by this filtration.

Cutts has confirmed that this new optimisation method can be expected anytime in the upcoming weeks or by the next month.
