Google stated that a few members of Google’s U.S. and Brazil Street View have teamed up with the team of Google Earth Outreach and are in the Amazon rainforest currently. These teams have paired up and are making use of the search engine giant’s Street View technology, so that they can capture river images which are surrounded by forests and are adjacent to the communities of the rivers.
Google has there been partnered by the local non-profit conservation organization, Foundation for a Sustainable Amazon (FAS), who offered an invitation to that area. The Google team has been training the representatives of FAS for the process of the imagery collection. They would even leave some of their equipment which would be helpful for the representatives to keep on continuing their work. This has its own benefits as when the locals operate such tools, they would be able to share their ways of life, culture and view points with everyone around the world with a better prospective.
Talking about the Street View trike, its being pedaled its way in the Amazon villages’ narrow dirt paths and maneuvering its way to close on the point where rainforest and civilization meets. The team even plans to use the boats as a medium to capture images as their boat moves down the river. The team would even use the tripod which has traditionally been used for capturing images of business interiors. Tripod’s use will enrich the research as one would get a better viewing of how the working and living conditions are there in Amazonian community center and school and many other places there.
The collaborated teams of FAS along with Google have planned their project’s first phase which would be in the range of Rio Negro River’s 50 km section. Here they would visit and capture images. After this, their reach would extend from the Tumbira community to the Terra Preta community. Tumbira community is near Manaus which is the capital of the state of Amazonas. The next step would be to convert these imagery to 360-degree panoramics.
Amazon is a reserve for those environmentalists, travelers and enthusiasts who would want to explore the Amazonia. They would be able to actually experience their access to the Amazon rainforests which would be more than just a dream.
Google Street Views Amazon teamleader, Karin Tuxen-Bettman said that as soon as all these images are uploaded on the net, they would be able to share the beauty and local culture of the place with anyone who may be anywhere in the world.
Google however didn’t miss out on saying that their experience with FAS has been of great honor. The reason for it was that FAS team has been of great help for the Google team in bringing the world of Amazon more closer for those who cannot personally be there.
