Google Revamps Gmail Window For Android, iPhone, iPad

Mountain View, California — In a bid to trounce its rivals, search leader Google is carrying on its slow and steady march of improvements to its web-based version of Gmail for the Android, iPhone and now iPad platforms. On Tuesday, the company pushed out a handful of minor modifications to the way Gmail.com handles new messages. The changes come to the web app’s email composing screen.

The search giant has restyled the web app’s underlining code in order to continue to improve it and this updates includes a redesigned compose page.

It is now effortless to add, remove, and sort through email recipients with a new scrolling capability. Other new functions include quick removal of the contact you just added by tapping Backspace.

“Once you select a contact from the auto-complete menu, you will also discover that the contact becomes an object that you can tap on,” Google said on its blog. “Tapping on a contact opens a detailed view that lets you double-check the person’s e-mail address or remove them from the e-mail. Yes, this means you can remove an e-mail address in two taps!”

Other new features that include lets users press the “+” button to see their most-contacted friends or hide them by pressing the “–” button. Users will also be able to add just the username of a Gmail user, and the Gmail software will automatically include the “@gmail.com” to the address.

Also, the height of the address field now expands to fit the full list of added contacts, so you can view your recipient spread in a glance. Google has also increased the email composing screen, the page now fills the entire screen, giving you more space to see what you are writing. The changes also affect the iPad and iPod Touch.
