GOOGLE PLANS TO VERIFY CELEBRITIES FOR GOOGLE+

July 21, 2011 0

Google+ is just three weeks old and already has become Google’s favorite baby. Google is planning a “celebrity acquisition plan” for Google+ is what is reported by CNN after they made a review of Google e-mails. Brett Schulte said that to help this cause, Google has began to formulate a system which would be used for verification of the public figures and their identities would be known . This would be for those public figures who register for the service.

Schulte is Tweet House’s organizer and a Hollywood consultants and said that this is a validation process which prevents users from impersonating celebs. This button for every verified celebrity, would be similar to the stamp of Twitter which says, ‘verified’. This was concluded by him after he had a discussion with employees of Google.

Google’s spokeswoman however didn’t comment on the matter saying that they are not disclosing any information about their plans about Google+ which they would resolve to in future. She added in her e-mail that they are planning to make additions of a number of functions and features to Google+ in the times to come.

Schulte said that Google is still uncertain as to how this profile verification would be effective. Out of the many options considered by the team, one was involved asking the celebrities to make a fax of their driving license to the company. Schulte claimed that Google team was highly interested in putting up verified accounts of celebrities on their new social networking site. For some additional hard work, search engine giant would hunt for consultants and agents who indulge in top talents and would have the authority to file direct request.

This is not the first time that Google has attempted something of this sort. Back in 2008 Google did launch a program on trial basis in the US. This program had given the permission to people to get their identities validated and to link it to their Google Profiles. The procedure was like one had to enter their names and phone numbers and a PIN code would be passed on to them via a call. Alternatively one can enter their credit card number which would be checked in contrast with their database of third party. For getting verified, one would receive a badge in green color which would read out ‘verified name’ against their respective profiles.

Earlier Twitter had even resorted to the similar gimmick and was allowing people to get the tag reading out ‘verified’ for their profiles. But as expected the special service was removed for the general public. Twitter spokeswoman reverted in a mail saying that they still verify advertisers and partners. Along with that the other group which gets this service is of those whose accounts can be a matter of confusion on a regular basis. But still that ‘verified’ tag is now acting like a status symbol for those who have it and those who don’t, envy it.

Social networking giant, Facebook however has never tried working on such gimmicks. It does not look out for the verification of any user. Other way round, it allows the users to report any one whom they suspect to be fake.

Google+ has everything going their way for the start which looks promising as they have already stalked up users which count up to 2.4% of Facebook users that too in just 3 weeks time. But would this even work in their favor is still a question mark. One would still be forced to think as to was this a necessary step from Google or not
