February 8, 2011 0

Mountain View, California — Google’s Priority Inbox, which is happily enjoyed by desktop users since last September and through Gmail for Android since December, and now those who have been using the mobile Gmail web app for the longest time will be pleased to know that the search engine titan on Monday added Priority Inbox features into its Gmail for mobile web app which is now available, on multiple mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, Android, Symbian, BlackBerry) via a HTML5-supporting browser.

Priority Inbox is Google’s attempt to solve e-mail overload. It helps you prevent from being flooded by too much information simply by automatically filtering incoming Gmail messages to present the most important messages up top for you to focus on, followed by starred e-mails, and then everything else underneath. Priority Inbox can be customized, however, to display the categories of your choice.

So far, this outstanding feature was only available on the desktop and Android devices. Google has now extended the feature to its Web app.

“If you have ever damned a phone’s teeny-weeny screen as absolutely inadequate for sifting through an overflowing inbox you will be pleased to hear that the Gmail mobile web app now supports Priority Inbox,” wrote Nathan Bullock, Software Engineer.

Furthermore, users having their Priority Inbox feature enabled will be able to access them from the Menu screen in the mobile app. Gmail for mobile also marks essential items with the familiar yellow arrow icon. This method allows users to focus on mails from friends, from work, while leaving things likes newsletters for a later read. Get prioritizing!

“Now, once you set up Priority Inbox in the desktop version of Gmail, you will see Priority Inbox sections when you visit gmail.com from your phone’s browser and click on the ‘Menu’ screen,” aBullock wrote in a blog post. “You will also see importance markers in your inbox, so you can quickly identify which messages are important,” explained Bullock.

Google said the feature will be made available for most mobile browsers that support HTML5, including devices powered by at least Android 1.5 and iOS 3 and above.
