GOOGLE INTRODUCES GMAIL APP 2.3.5 FOR ANDROID USERS

August 1, 2011 0

Search Engine Giant Google has updated its email service – Gmail for Android users. The Gmail app – 2.3.5 has new features and enhancements which is likely to make it convenient to Android users to view their mail on the go.

The application offers full access to Gmail features, including the possibility to read and create emails, search messages and more.

Of the various new features introduced, the most notable one is the ability to synchronize email messages inside the ‘Priority Inbox’, giving users more battery life due to less bandwidth which converts to cheaper fees. Priority Inbox is a folder in Gmail accounts automatically created to separate the most important messages, according to Google classifications.

Moreover, the new version of the mobile client will offer users the possibility to set up filters and ringtones for the various labels they have in their inbox.

Listing the benefits of Gmail app 2.3.5, Softpedia blogs, “ The update brings a number of new features and bug-fixes including:

– Save bandwidth and battery by only syncing priority mail .

– Use label notifications to mash up filters, labels, and ringtones .

– Remember “Show Pictures” for senders .

– Turn off sticky message actions in landscape or all orientations.

– Better TalkBack support for accessibility, and

– Performance improvements .”

With this application, all new emails are being automatically pushed to the phone, not to mention that messages are synced so that users can access them on the go even when offline. With Gmail for Android, users are also offered the possibility to access multiple accounts at the same time.

Android device users will receive boosts in performance and the option not to ‘Show Pictures’ for faster load times, or to avoid opening images from untrusted sources, all of which Gmail will remember.

However, Electronista brings to notice a change which the app has brought which is likely to cause some trouble to the Android users. The blog says, “Behind the scenes, Google updated the app’s manifest to change the access rights for the Gmail database. While previously, other apps could easily access your messages, now a signature check will stop anything but the official Gmail app from doing so. That means that anything that relied on access to that data is now broken. It’s not clear if there will ever be a work-around for this change.”

Commenting on the consequences of the change in access rights, Chris Banes, software engineer says, “This means that all the Gmail notifiers, widgets, etc in the Market will not work.”

On the Gmail app 2.3.5 for Android, Google explains that this is “the dedicated Gmail application integrated with Contacts and Android applications,” and that some of the main features it has to offer include “push, sync, conversations, integration, search,” and more.
