Google Introduces AdSense For Smartphones

October 8, 2009 0

San Francisco — Search engine behemoth Google Inc. earlier this week upgraded its AdSense support for high end smartphones like the iPhone 3GS. Publishers would now be able to show up much larger ads on their mobile sites to visitors using smartphones. Previously only small text and image ads could be displayed.

The enhancement helped Google to insert advertisements next to search results, into the iPhone Maps app. Local iPhone map searches will also now show sponsored listings in the view and list modes of the Maps app., such as this search for “Verizon” resulted in the following list view:

Danielle VanDyke, software engineer for Google, on the company blog said, “With the increasing demand of high-end mobiles combined with full internet browsers, like the iPhone and phones running Android, advertisers are increasingly extending their campaigns to mobile devices. Because these offer a rich content experience similar to the desktop, advertising on them is a natural extension for many advertisers.”

However, it is not always been easy for advertisers to reach people on smartphones, VanDyke wrote. “That is why we are spending more in modern high-end mobile advertising products such as our search ad options for high-end phones and AdSense for mobile applications. We wish to induce advertising on high-end mobile devices as intuitive, effective and user-friendly as our existing AdWords tools.”

Google, in July rolled out new feature for AdSense for Mobile Apps and began serving ads into Android and iPhone apps. However, it received criticism from advertisers and trade bodies for automatically signing up brands to link ads through to online websites rather than mobile-enabled sites.

But now, the fire has been extinguished, so more ads are coming to mobiles via Google Adsense and Google even offers the following video explaining the new advertising technology announced recently.
