New York — Recently, Google has added a new feature to Google News that empowers users of its sevrice to conveniently find content from their favorite authors and journalists. The new feature enables online readers to quickly search for articles and headlines specific to their author by simply clicking on the hyper-linked text of the journalist’s name.
This is ideal for news readers who prefer the work of a particular author, but would otherwise be unsure of where to find just that author’s articles, can now see authors’ names beneath each story in search results where they are available and can click on these names to see more from the same writer.
Doing so brings up the search operator author:”author name” and results for that query. The enhancement is aimed at helping users to sift through the 25,000 news sources that Google News aggregates. This is exciting news for journalists in the way that it assists them in promoting their work as part of their own brand. The update is great news for readers who are fans of certain writers, too.
“We are continually working to increase the ways in which you can interact with the news and we hope you will like the new ability to search by author,” remarked Nemanja Petrovic, Google research engineer, on the Google News Blog.
Another advantageous aspect of being able to bring up articles by specific authors is that you can subscribe to the RSS feed for them. This makes it almost as if you are subscibing to that journalists own personal publication without getting author authors in the mix.
And just recently, links to Wikipedia articles were added to Google News listings and results by the search engine after initially being tested on a small number of users.
Undeniably, the Internet is an absolutely essential resource for journalists. The world’s most powerful search engine provider is rapidly adapting in order to cater to professionals in the field and its followers.
