Google Dominates US, UK Searches In May 2008

Google search usage continues to reign as the UK’s most popular search engine, accounting for 87.3% of searches in May, according to figures quoted by Hitwise.

“Today, Hitwise released its search market share numbers for May, 2008.”

Since the past year Google continually claims to increase its share of the UK’s web search market by almost 10 points, claiming almost 90 percent of all UK web searches.

Google continued its dominance over the U.S. search market in May, moving from 67.90% of US based searches in April 2008 by seizing 68.29% of all searches in May 2008, seeing increases both month-over-month and year-over-year, versus 20 percent for Yahoo and 5.9 percent for Microsoft, according to Hitwise.

The entire struggle over the fate of Yahoo cannot be helping matters. In the month of May, Google gained 0.39 points from April, while Yahoo was down 0.33 points and Microsoft was down 0.37 points.
