Google+ corporate accounting test accelerated

July 14, 2011 0

Google, it seems, is in a hurry to launch corporate accounts. Last week the search engine giant had announced that it would be welcoming corporate accounts into Google+ later this year, yet there seems to be an acceleration in activities on Google’s part towards this end.

A Cnet Blog posted that Google had embarked on a process of inviting applications for selecting corporates for corporate accounts testing on Google+ and the response has been in tens of thousands. The application forms for the selection process closes on Friday, said Christian Oestlien, a Google product manager on a Google+ post on Wednesday.

Expressing Google’s inability to accommodate all the applicants, Oestlien thanked everyone who had applied and said that the selection process would commence next week.

Considering the clout of the social media, it is a big deal for corporates to have a presence on social networks and harness their utility. The two established players in social networking – Facebook and Twitter both offer corporate accounts.

Once in a while by a stroke of luck or a brilliant strategy a company enjoys a promotional perk as a viral video blazes from friend to friend across social networks. However, what is important in the long run is customer support, friends’ recommendations and other routine interactions involving companies and consumers. Both ways, a corporate presence on social networks is crucial.

Google says Google+ isn’t yet ready for them, though. That hasn’t stopped many from trying, but Google has been deleting corporate accounts.

However, some companies like the Ford Motor Company has established a corporate presence on Google+, securing a place in a test of how Google’s social network site will extend beyond individuals.

Oestlien said that team members including himself and business profiles product manager Dennis Troper will focus next week on selecting a diverse set of business partners for the test period.

After communicating with the selected partners Google will make known to the world who the testing partners will be.
