Mountain View, California — As the clock struck 12 today, September 27, 2010, the search engine titan Google begins to celebrate its 12th (pre-teen) Birthday with yet another “doodle” cake with a candle by eminent 89-year-old Los Angeles artist Wayne Thiebaud. And what better way could there to do it, then to share a birthday cake with Google’s millions of users.
Surely, most people have seen the doodle by now on the homepage of Google. And, as reported by the Telegraph, the cake was painted by an eminent 89-year old artist, Wayne Thiebaud a resident of Los Angeles. The birthday doodle has a candle which denotes the letter “L” of the name and completes the Google on the cake.
The California-based search engine company’s birthday always holds a little tricky issue. The company was first incorporated on September 4, 1998, the first technical spec is from September 20, 1998, and the first employee was appointed on September 21, 1998 (Craig Silverstein — a fellow grad student with Sergey and Larry at Stanford). And yet, the search engine leader seems to prefer to celebrate their birthday today, on September 27.
However, the latest Doodle of Google sends a straight message of its birthday anniversary, than the “Bucky Ball” doodle which Google marked the 25th anniversary of the discovery of the buckyball. It was a spherical dome of exotic molecules of carbon, with a special moving design.
However if reflect back and check out its doodles in the last couple of months some of very interesting observation can be made. Google recently came up with a ball game animation that distracted millions of internet users and it is still a mystery. Before that 30th birthday of Pac-Man was celebrated with the embedded game on the home page itself.
Google is not merely the biggest search engine leader but also it has become the part of our daily online searches and no doubt Google has changed the whole world and tied everyone into a single knot. Its birthday is the best time to reflect on the achievements of this search engine that was started by two 24-year old Stanford students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, today they would not only become a global motivating force, but also helping in driving the whole world. Google is true victor of search engine war and since its inception it has shown no signs of slowing down.
The artist Thiebaud’s painting was used with the permission of Visual Artists and Galleries Association (VAGA) New York. The artist apparently rose to fame for painting other cakes in his paintings, most of which originated in the 1950s and 1960s.
