All Five FCC Commissioners Make Unprecedented Showing at the 2008 International CES…

Arlington, Va. — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) on Wednesday announced that Kevin Martin, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will be featured in the Industry Insider Series as part of the 2008 International CES.
The 2008 International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology trade show held annually, is scheduled for Jan. 7-10 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the CEA said in a statement.
FCC Chairman Martin will join Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA, for a one-on-one discussion as part of the “Industry Insider Series” about issues vital to every segment of the consumer technology industry, including the digital television (DTV) transition, the upcoming 700 MHz spectrum auction and broadband deployment.
“Martin’s session is slated for 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, in North Hall N255-257at the Las Vegas Convention Center.”
“Our global industry is impacted by decisions made around the world on issues related to broadband and Internet access, wireless spectrum allocation and the transition to digital broadcasting, and the international regulatory landscape can impact market opportunities,” said Karen Chupka, CEA senior vice president for events and conferences.
In addition, the 2008 International CES, slated for Jan. 7-10 and produced by CEA, will play home for the first time ever to all five FCC commissioners, including Martin and commissioners Michael J. Copps, Jonathan S. Adelstein, Deborah Taylor Tate and Robert McDowell.

Before joining the FCC, Chairman Martin was a special assistant to the President for Economic Policy. He served on the Bush-Cheney Transition Team and was deputy general counsel for the Bush campaign. Prior to joining the campaign, Martin was an advisor to FCC Commissioner Harold Furchtgott-Roth and also served in the Office of the Independent Counsel.
“This International Super Session provides the opportunity to hear directly from government officials who shape the future of consumer electronics, what policy frameworks best support innovation and which countries are taking the necessary steps to sustain growth in the global consumer technology industry,” CEA’s Karen added.
Other 2008 Industry Insider programs include Technology and Emerging Countries, technology’s impact on Hollywood, an international retail power panel and an address by Yahoo!’s CEO and Chief Yahoo!, Jerry Yang.
