Facebook Finally Rolls Out Photo Sync Feature To All Users For Android And iOS

December 3, 2012 0

Los Angeles – Almost three months of testing, and just last month extending the test to iOS users, social network giant Facebook on Friday announced it is rolling out photo sync, a fresh new feature called Facebook Photo Sync for both Android and iOS devices to all users, that makes it easier to share photos from your phone.

The latest Photo Sync feature empowers Android and iPhone users to enable automatic uploading of any photos they click with their mobile device directly saved in a secret section of user’s Facebook profile.

Meanwhile, access to synced photos is not readily available to anyone but their owner, from there, users can choose to either keep it private, or pick their favorites and share with family and friends via the Web on a PC, mobile phone, or other device.

But the sharing of course is where you will have to make some decisions. First, you will need to use the latest version of the Facebook app, and turn on the syncing manually. Also, if you turn it on, a total of 2GB worth of photos can be stored from mobile devices.

Here is what Facebook says about when they sync your photos:

We generally try to sync your photos as soon as you take them. However, we also take into account a number of factors, such as your battery level and sync settings. New photos that you take will be privately synced as you take them. In your syncing settings, you can choose to sync over Wi-Fi and your cellular network, sync or over Wi-Fi only, or turn syncing off entirely. You can also choose to sync all photos in your camera roll over wifi and see how much storage space you have available.

Elaborating on the amazing features, the company said, “Today we are thrilled to officially launch photo sync, which makes it easier to share photos. With this feature, photos from your phone sync automatically to a private album on the web. When you want to share these photos, just pick and post your favorites,” says Facebook. “We began testing photo sync in August and will continue to make it available to more people.”

Once the feature is activated, and those who wish to access the new option, can enter using the left-side sidebar on a mobile phone or tablet, then scroll down to Photos under Apps. When the button becomes available, tap Synced at the bottom of the photo section (below right), next to the Photos of You and Albums buttons.

Now, the moment you tap ‘Synched’, another screen will pop up for confirmation (below left). “Get the photos in your camera roll to Facebook automatically,” it says. “Your photos stay private until you choose shots to share.” Click the Sync Photos button at the bottom once more, and begin synchronizing.

As far as the details about how the feature works, they have indeed been released by the social media service. Besides, PC users can follow a similar path: Go to the Timeline, click Photos, then click Synced From Phone at the top before following step-by-step instructions. Once linked, the Synced (on mobile devices) and Synced From Phone (on the PC) bring you directly to your collection of private images.

Aimed at making it easier, Facebook said it began experimenting photo sync feature in August and “will continue to make it available to more people.” In addition, the Facebook app is currently available for free in the Android Google Play store and the Apple iTunes Store. The newest version also provides a Share link to re-post stories from the news feed, as well as the ability to tag friends in any post, comment, or photo.
