Facebook Finally Gets More Twitter-Like, Adds A Mobile Share Button

November 16, 2012 0

San Francisco – Frustrated by the inability to repost something you love from Facebook’s mobile News Feed? Well, fret no more, as your long-running nightmare of being unable to share your friends’ witty status updates while on the go may be coming to a close. Facebook is currently launching a mobile “share” button for its mobile website.

The company did not revealed much information about the share button or its reasoning behind the move, but the new button is the mobile equivalent of the share button you already see on the website. It finally gives you a way to repost content from friends and Pages when you are using Facebook’s mobile site.

The share button is currently only visible on m.facebook.com and with no recent update, there is still not a share option inside the mobile apps. But of course, the share button is also headed to the social network’s iOS and Android applications in the near future, a company representative said in a statement.

In addition, the new mobile share button is embedded adjacent to the “like” and “comment” buttons at the bottom of posts, as pictured below. Members can click “share” to repost the status update and add their own comments.

The mobile feature, like the Web browser version, allows users to repost a friend’s photos and links. Also, the ability to share posts was top on the list of most-requested features, and frankly it is surprising that it has taken Facebook this long to make it a reality.

As a matter of fact, Facebook and Twitter are both popular in their own right, but they have also started incorporating features that make them more identical. Twitter has been testing out “like” and star buttons to potentially replace the “favorite” tool the service has used for years. And Facebook’s news feed has been compared to Twitter’s stream of tweets.

Nevertheless, the button is an important one, not only because it satisfies the pleas of people who have asked for the long overdue feature, but because it makes a once complicated process effortless. As such, the additional share button should help brands, businesses, celebrities, and publications get their messages, sponsored or not, in front of even more people.
