Traditionally one could only make a comment on someone’s Facebook wall but Facebook is set to make changes to that too. One can not add preview links, photos and even embedding of videos is possible now. Some eye it as basically an improvement over the rival baby Google+ which has been turning the heat on Facebook for quite some time now. Unexpectedly this announcement did nothing but converted into a protest site and the reason was the social networking giant’s new chat system. The announcement was made by Facebook on the Photos page of Facebook.
The site made the announcement about the new feature which lets users to not just make a comment on a wall post but even add in websites, photos and embed a video too. The comment there would however show the website’s preview in brief if a website link is posted, a photo’s thumbnail if if one posts a photo and a video player for those posting embedding a video. There is an option even available to remove the preview from the comment if one wants too for which one will have to just make a click. The post was however more or less ignored by the users as the comments posted showed that maybe it didn’t really work out that well or no one wanted to make use of this feature.
Facebook surely had a bad day that such an innovative and interesting feature was bombarded with complaints. These complaints related to this new Chat feature. This feature has a companion which is the recently added Skype-powered video chat.Brock Alexander, a user ridiculed saying that the new chat doesn’t function properly. He continued saying that it would had been better if the testing was done before the release of such features. Tauntingly he concluded on a sad note wrote, “Oh well, I suppose that’s how it works now – ’tis easier to ask forgiveness (for screwing everyone’s chat up) than permission.”
This new feature of chat opens up a messenger-like box which looks quite similar to AOL Instant Messenger. It lists the usernames but this new way of chatting has not at all been appreciated by users majorly. Taking about the group chat too, one has to first engage in a chat with a single user and then the adding process begins. Jill Duffy noted that it wasn’t a perfect way to begin a group chat. He added to his comment saying that he would in fact like to see multiple usernames before he opens up a chat dialog box.
But things looked extreme when a user emotionally posted that she wanted her old chat back. She said, “I WANT MY CHAT BACK AND I WANT ALLLLLLLL THESE STUPID ADDS, EVERYWHERE, TO GO AWAY!!!” Shannon Mansfield wrote, one of the more irate online protesters. “FACEBOOK IS STARTING TO BE ANNOYING AND BORING. NO ONE CARES ABOUT ANY OF THIS STUFF, WE JUST WANT OUR OLD FACEBOOK BACK AND THEN JUST LEAVE IT THE WAY IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Talking about the rival Google+, a Google+ user already is posting links, pictures and embedding videos on the social networking site. This service was launched by Google+ at June end. But while talking about comments, one can post only text ones to other posts. Facebook has definitely gone steps ahead with their innovation and even in the count, Google+ is just with a few millions as compared to Facebook’s 750 million army but still these two are being considered as direct competitors which again might be worrying Facebook.
