CHECK LOCALIZED OFFERS ON GOOGLE+

December 15, 2011 0

Google+ is in all news, mainly because there are a number of integrations Google has opted for to help Google+ kick itself towards success. Facebook hasn’t really dropped on activeness, but Google+ is slowly moving towards success. There is more to push Google+ further. The search engine giant is integrating additional mobile and Offers features with the Google+ social network.

The newly integrated features will allow check-in based offers. This would not only help users to know the best offers running at a store near them, but importantly, local businesses would even earn good business, if users make use of the service. It would be all on the shoulders of Google+, or rather Google rightly.

This unique integration was first brought to notice by Mike Blumenthal, who spotted the noteworthy change and quoted his thoughts on to the Google Offers help files: a discussion of Google+ check-ins and their purpose.

The spotting had to be on an individual basis, as there were no trumpets blown by Google to let its users that something of this sort was coming in. users might be happily interested to know about this facility, but it would be the marketers and advertisers who will try to maximize their benefits out of this feature.

Blumenthal had a report, a copy of which was snagged by TechCrunch. The text of the help file included useful lines such as:

  • “When you create new offers, you can choose whether to allow a check-in during redemption.”

  • “Your customers will choose who see their check-ins” (including private check-ins)

  • “Customers who use Google products that support offers and check-ins will be required to check-in when they redeem an offer. However, if they use a product that does not support check-ins […], they will not be asked to check-in.”

The confirmation for the same came from Marissa Mayer, Google’s Vice President of Product Management, noting that the feature would be coming live in the near future. But the confirmation from her cannot be concluded as the Google+ integration would abandon the other Google location-based products.

Google+ has been of utmost importance for Google and it seems it can go to any extend to see its success. Till now it has only integrated the service with other Google products, but one might wonder if Google+ success will even ask other services to shut down in future. There is even a possibility that Google might try to merge its first social networking site, that is Orkut to boost activeness on Google+. The Google+ button, ‘+1’ is all over the web even, which is attempting to call users and their friends to Google+.

Whatever may be the case, but these recent efforts will see at least marketers and advertisers dropping into Google+, in hope of getting a number of customers who will want to know more about the offers running in their locality.
