BAIDU CLOSING IN TO LAUNCH ITS OWN MOBILE OS

September 7, 2011 0

Baidu, China’s top search engine has an interesting update which would have developers noting a point. Baidu has announced the launch of its mobile application system which would help developers in developing mobile applications and even distribute it. They are now just a few steps away from the development of their own mobile operating system. It looks like a rumor is coming close enough to becoming an official news.

Concerning the Indian market, Chinese handsets vendors are the largest suppliers and the presence even can be termed as a ‘sizable’ one in India. These innovations can make many claws finding their way in as another Chinese company, Alibaba had even said that they do not rule out any such possibility in the near future. However, they have gone their way and have launched their OS which is named Aliyun. It has made itself unique with the inclusion of a handset which provides cloud-based services and each user would thus get a storage capacity of 100-gigabyte.

Like any Chinese import, this would even have a cost which would fit easily into any common man’s pocket in India. Additionally, such developer platforms would even have their implications in reducing the cost of applications which would result as the cost of development would be low.

Talking about the platform which is named “Yi Platform”, has its basis on Google Inc’s Android mobile operating system, which would be helpful for the software developers to create applications such as music, games and book tools which can be distributed via the platform. At the annual Baidu Technology Innovation Conference, executive director of Baidu, Xu Yingchun said that Yi would help in lowering one’s cost while would even allow user sharing and developers would even be able to increase traffic. He added that the service will also facilitate mobile phone manufacturers.

Baidu even has plans to get the cooperation of other cell phone makers and come up with tailored products using this platform which would be an addition to handsets from the company’s cloud-computing services.

Briefing about the operating system, Baidu’s vice-president Wang Jin, told Dow Jones Newswires that they currently do not have any such plans, but like Alibaba they even do not wish to rule out that option for the future.

The Chinese market is rife with new announcements and smartphones launches. Among the popular ones here is even Xiaomi Corp, a start-up company having the Chinese Internet guru Lei Jun as their founder. They have come up with their smartphone in August, which are with very high end performance and the cost it based the smartphone was 1,999 yuan ($313).

This can pose even a threat to the U.S. and other major country manufacturers in the Asian market as the Chinese products will cost less and perform quite well to compete with its competitors. If it works out good for them in the Asian market, they would not fear from competing with the other manufacturers in the U.S. and European markets. Baidu went from strength to strength after Google walked away from the Chinese market as it had sited hacking and curbs. But now after shutting Google’s campaign in China, the competition this time would be for the smartphone market.
