AOL Snags Scripps Network For Video Content

New York -- Seeking to broaden its online distribution sphere, Scripps Networks on Wednesday announced a partnership with AOL to deliver clips from its collection of leading lifestyle content to online consumers through AOL Video, and selectively throughout AOL Food, AOL Home and Slashfood later this summer, the companies said today.

Highlights from chosen HGTV series will be offered on AOL Video, including Carter Can, Color Splash, Deserving Design, Design on a Dime, House Hunters, I Want That! and Sleep on It.

AOL Transforms The iPhone Into Radio

Ever since the launch of iPhone 2.0 that dragged the Internet to a screeching halt, when the struggling AOL trying to alter its business model ever since its ISP division all but caved in on itself; recently came up with an iPhone application that won the Apple award for “Best Entertainment Application” at this year’s WWDC.

Operating by the name of AOL Radio, the new application enables users to access the radio service through EDGE or Wi-Fi.

AOL Updates Radio Service, Adds CBS Stations

New York -- AOL, on Tuesday unveiled a revamped version of its popular online AOL Radio Service, http://radio.aol.com, which touts an upgraded online player with additional functions and expand the service’s reach with a wealth of new radio stations, including 150 local CBS RADIO stations and custom channels plus more than 200 AOL Radio channels. 

“The new AOL Radio lays emphasis on AOL’s ongoing commitment to provide users with the best all encompassing radio experience available,” said Kevin Conroy, Executive Vice President, AOL. “With over 350 streams, 150 of them from CBS RADIO, AOL Radio is unmatched in breadth of streaming audio content available online.”

AOL Promotes Ad Platform Across Europe

New York - AOL, a unit of Time Warner Inc. on Friday announced the extension of its Platform-A Internet advertising service in Europe. The spreading out is part of its plan to extend the reach of its advertising business worldwide by the close of 2009.

The move by the Time Warner Inc. unit comes less than one year after it switched its AOL script in the U.S., shifting roles from being Internet portal to a one-stop Web-based advertising business. The service enables advertisers to make use of the company’s optimization technology and behavioral targeting in combination with Advertising.com’s social media, affiliate marketing, search, video and mobile inventories, according to Lynda Clarizio, president of Platform-A.

Ask.com Buys Dictionary.com To Give Out More Answers

New York -- In a move that reflects a new strategy, Barry Diller’s IAC/InterActiveCorp which owns Ask.com has acquired Lexico Publishing Group, an Internet media company that owns sites that includes Dictionary.com in its latest effort to distinguish itself from online search leader Google and other much larger rivals.

“A similar attempt last year was made by rival site Answers.com, but the deal eventually fell through.”

Dulles, Va. -- On the heels of Open AIM, Time Warner’s AOL today introduced “Open Voice APIs” to provide third-party developers and VoIP device manufacturers with open standards protocols that will allow its VoIP service to run on softphones, the software that enables computerized calling, SIP-enabled devices, as well as cell phones with Wi-Fi connectivity.
