Apple has been on a spree to sue mobile device manufacturers such as HTC, Samsung and Motorola for infringed patents which were being used by these manufacturers and for ‘copied looks’ matter. Looks like the tech giant is weakening the Android links before launching a full-fledged attack on it. Google seems to be the ultimate target in this case. This can be said as Apple has targeted those manufacturers who are the largest manufacturers of Android-powered devices.
Apple has been ruining these manufacturers sales and the court support for Apple has been appreciated by the tech giant. Samsung’s issue relating to its latest Galaxy tablet was in favor of Apple when it claimed that the tab was a rip-off majorly of Apple’s iPad. The result was that Samsung has been prevented from selling its new Galaxy Tablet in most of Europe. The challenge from Apple in Australia has been even aggressive which could strengthen Apple’s market position which was shaken up by Android’s runaway success.
The claim directly has not been for the operating system but the features under attack route for the operating system too. This can be assumed as per the referring of Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple where he said that soul of a device is the software.
Gleacher & Co’s analyst, Brian Marshall said that patent muscles of Apple have been flexing up every now and then as they even know that the main battle is being fought against Google’s Android. He even said that Apple is not really concerned with actual OEMs.
The problem for Apple has been that its top position in the smartphone and tablet world has been at stake with Android-powered phones being activated at a rate of 550,000 every day. However, these lawsuits against Android-powered manufacturers would hamper Google’s run in the mobile section. Inflexion Point Strategy’s managing director and patent consultant, Ron Laurie said that Google has been getting in because of its hold in the marketplace. This meant that if there is a victory for Apple in any case would mean a loss for Android. Google would have to get that feature out which would make it less attractive. The only response form Google’s Chairman Eric Schmidt was that the rivals have routed for lawsuits instead of innovations.
Talking about Tablets, Apple has to worry as it has been predicted that by 2015 there would be a sale rise to more that 230 million and if Android-based manufacturers are free, Apple will lose out a major chunk of its ruling to Google’s OS. This is not Apple would want to happen and accordingly, preventive steps look to be prevailing from the Tech Giant. Informa, a research firm had reported that the tablet market will be topped by Android-based tablets by 2016 which would even ring the warning bells running for Apple.
For Android’s future, patents are very important and if this is restricted by Apple lawsuits, then Android will only be able to limp on its way which would mean that Apple would be safe at the top until someone like Google or Microsoft come up with something much better.
